Clayton Shiu, Ph.D. is at the forefront of integrating acupuncture with Western medicine for optimal patient care and life-changing outcomes.  After establishing a successful sports and orthopedic clinic in New York City, Dr. Shiu was awarded a scholarship by the Chinese government to pursue his doctoral education as part of continued efforts by the Chinese and American governments to facilitate knowledge exchange between their countries.  He continued to refine his understanding of Chinese Medicine under many renowned teachers of TCM, most notably Dr. Shi Xue Min, a stroke specialist, and the “father of modern acupuncture.”  Clayton received his Ph.D. in Acupuncture and Moxibustion from the Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and completed his residency at the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin, a highly regarded teaching facility, and the largest stroke rehabilitation acupuncture and moxibustion center in China (the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin and its Stroke Rehab System are featured in the acclaimed acupuncture documentary 9,000 Needles).  Clayton’s doctoral research focused on acupuncture treatment for cerebral, neurological, and speech disorders.  Dr. Shiu built upon the teachings he learned in Tianjin and created a distinct treatment called “Nanopuncture®” that merges Western neuroscience and acupuncture.

After completing his doctorate, Clayton returned to New York City and continued to use Nanopuncture® to successfully treat patients with neurological disorders.  Medical doctors and acupuncturists across the United States have referred their patients to Dr. Shiu when Western medicine or traditional acupuncture were not working.  He founded The Shiu Clinic in 2019 where he currently practices Traditional Chinese Medicine and Nanopuncture®  in Manhattan and East Hampton.  The Shiu Clinic is the first in New York City to combine neuroscience, acupuncture, and the most cutting-edge photobiomodulation technology.

Dr. Shiu is the creator of the Nanopuncture® stroke and neurological rehabilitation system and teaches his Nanopuncture® certification courses to acupuncturists and other medical professionals throughout the country.  Dr. Shi Xue Min invited Clayton to present his breakthroughs with the Nanopuncture system at the 2020 International Acupuncture Conference in Tianjin, China.

Clayton holds faculty positions at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences and the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine teaching stroke rehabilitation courses for their doctoral programs.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Shiu recognized a need for healthcare services in the Hamptons.  When many of his patients temporarily relocated to the area, he noticed a lack of medical options for the local population who lived there year round.  Clayton subsequently pivoted his focus to building an East Hampton satellite clinic.  He currently treats many local residents and families in the Hamptons area and continues to look for other ways to best serve the community.

Dr. Shiu has been featured in Reuters commenting on the use of Chinese herbal medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in two recently published books: Creative Success Now: How Creatives Can Thrive in the 21st Century and Fix My Face: Expert Advice for Maximizing Recovery from Bell’s Palsy, Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, and Other Causes of Facial Nerve Paralysis.
